The Gippsland Family Violence Alliance (GFVA) regularly publishes reports, project summaries, and other key documents as part of delivering on its Strategic Plan. These publications reflect the collective knowledge, insights, and priorities of the region’s family violence sector. They are designed not only to document progress, but to be practical tools that support the broader workforce and community.
These resources can assist local organisations in preparing funding submissions, shaping service design, informing advocacy efforts, and guiding new initiatives. They also serve to embed learnings and sustain momentum in key areas of reform. By sharing this work openly, the GFVA aims to build sector-wide capacity, foster collaboration, and continue driving improvements in the family violence response system across Gippsland.
Workforce Survey
In November 2024, the Workforce Survey was undertaken as a collaborative initiative between the Inner and Outer Gippsland Family Services Alliances and the Gippsland Homelessness Network. The purpose of the survey was to build a clearer understanding of both the current state and future needs of the regional workforce across the family services and homelessness sectors.
This initiative recognised that our ability to deliver safe, consistent, and person-centred support is closely tied to the capacity, wellbeing, and development of our practitioners and leaders. By listening directly to the workforce, we aimed to identify emerging challenges, training gaps, and systemic pressures, as well as strengths and opportunities that can inform strategic planning across the region.
The survey received strong engagement, with 242 practitioners and 62 leaders contributing their insights. Their responses provide a valuable evidence base to support workforce planning, inform advocacy, and shape targeted workforce development strategies that reflect the unique context and needs of Gippsland.
Mapping the service journey of victim-survivors of family violence practitioners in Gippsland
Deakin University, in partnership with the Gippsland Family Violence Alliance, undertook a significant project to map the experiences and engagement of people with lived experience of family violence across the Gippsland region. This work aimed to better understand how people who have experienced violence are currently engaging with the service system, and how their voices can continue to shape and strengthen family violence responses in our region.
The resulting report highlights both the unique and ongoing challenges faced by victim survivors in Gippsland, as well as the systemic gaps that persist across service access, safety, recovery, and inclusion. It provides valuable insights into what is working well, and where further effort and investment are needed to create a more responsive, survivor-informed system.
Please note that we have made a summary version of the report publicly available. Due to the sensitive nature of the full report, including de-identified qualitative data and lived experience accounts, we ask that anyone seeking access to the full report contact the Principal Strategic Advisor directly.
Gippsland Family Violence MARAM Report
This report was developed to gain insight into how practitioners across Gippsland are engaging with the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework. Specifically, it explores their confidence in applying key components of the Framework, as well as the practical barriers and enablers influencing day-to-day use.
While this survey provides a valuable snapshot of practitioner experiences at the time it was conducted, it has since been superseded and will not be repeated in its current form. However, we recognise the importance of continuing to understand how MARAM is embedded in practice. As such, the Gippsland Family Violence Alliance is exploring the development of a future, more qualitative survey tool to support deeper reflection and system learning.
In the meantime, this report remains a useful resource for agencies seeking to understand levels of alignment with the MARAM Framework and to identify opportunities for workforce development.
Please note: If your organisation had five or more practitioner responses to the survey, you were provided with an agency-specific report at the time of publication. If you would like a copy of this tailored report, please contact the Principal Strategic Advisor.
