Our Strategic Plans provide a clear roadmap for the Gippsland Family Violence Alliance’s work from 2023 to 2028. They articulate our long-term vision, values, and priorities, ensuring a consistent and coordinated approach to preventing and responding to family violence across the region.

These plans guide both the core, ongoing work of the Alliance—such as strengthening the service system, supporting the workforce, and fostering cross-sector collaboration—as well as the time-limited, strategic projects that respond to emerging needs and opportunities. Together, they reflect our commitment to continuous improvement, community-led solutions, and a shared responsibility for creating a safer Gippsland.

By setting clear goals and tracking progress over time, the Strategic Plans help us stay accountable to our partners, our community, and the people most impacted by family violence.

The Gippsland Family Violence Alliance (GFVA) Advocacy Strategy is a guiding document designed to elevate the voices of Gippsland’s practitioners, services, and communities within the broader family violence reform landscape. It outlines a coordinated approach to engaging decision makers, amplifying community awareness, and advocating for the needs and priorities of the family violence sector in Gippsland.

This Strategy recognises that rural and regional communities face unique challenges—including workforce shortages, service access barriers, and structural disadvantage—that must be considered in statewide policy and funding decisions. Through clearly defined actions and targeted advocacy, the GFVA seeks to ensure that Gippsland’s perspectives are heard, respected, and reflected in the ongoing evolution of Victoria’s family violence system.

By creating a unified platform for advocacy, this strategy strengthens our collective ability to influence reform, secure investment, and support meaningful change for those impacted by family violence across our region.

The Workforce Development Strategy supports the Gippsland Family Violence Alliance (GFVA) to deliver on one of its key strategic priorities: workforce capability and capacity across the family violence sector.

This Strategy provides a practical roadmap to address some of the most pressing workforce challenges in Gippsland, including recruitment, retention, onboarding, and ongoing professional development. It outlines targeted actions the Alliance and its Workforce Capacity Working Group can take to support the sector—such as creating shared tools, promoting regional career pathways, supporting student placements, facilitating cross-sector training, and building leadership capability.

Importantly, this strategy recognises the unique realities of working in a rural and regional context. It aims to create a more supported, skilled, and connected workforce—ensuring practitioners have the knowledge, confidence, and networks needed to respond safely and effectively to family violence in our communities.

By investing in the people who do this work every day, we strengthen the foundations of the entire service system.

The Gippsland Family Violence Alliance Strategic Plan 2023–2028 is our overarching framework, guiding the vision, priorities, and coordinated actions of the Alliance over a five-year period. It sets the strategic direction for how we work together as a region to prevent and respond to family violence, while ensuring that our efforts remain aligned with broader statewide reforms and local community needs.

Endorsed by the Area Directors of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, the Strategic Plan reflects a strong commitment to collaborative, place-based leadership. It outlines our key focus areas—including workforce capability, systems improvement, prevention, lived experience inclusion, and sector advocacy—and defines the principles and outcomes that drive our shared work.

This document serves as both a commitment and a call to action. It ensures all members of the Alliance are working towards a common vision: a future where all people in Gippsland are safe, thriving and living free of family violence.
